MOTOR BIKE CHALLENGE FOOTHILLS OF THE WESTERN HIMALAYA
TO ALL AVID ADVENTURERS!!

I’d like to start this by saying; to miss this trip is to miss a significant experience in ones life!! We’ve done it, we know!!
This trip is being undertaken by 30 enthusiastic travellers, comprising of riders and non riders - approximately 15 from Aussie and 15 from NZ.
This trip has been customised to suit this group of people with cultural excursions kept to a minimum but definitely included.
Total Distance: on Bike is 1180 kms (Amritsar to Haridwar)
Route: Delhi > Amritsar > Dharamsala > Kullu > Keylong > Manali > Shimla > Rishikesh > Shivpuri > Haridwar > Delhi.
The Ride will follow an ancient and relatively undiscovered pilgrimage route through the foothills of the Western Himalayas – the states of Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and the Punjab - an area of dramatic scenery and great cultural richness. Our tour will encompass much of this variety, while leaving us time for walks and visits to the temples and Monasteries.
Itinerary
Day 1Friday 09th October 2009: Arrive Delhi: Assistance on arrival and transfer to the hotel for Dinner and Overnight
Day 2Saturday 10th October 2009: Delhi to Amritsar: Early morning Transfer to the railway station for fast train to Amritsar Departure at 0720hrs. Arrival at 1305hrs. Arrive and transfer to the Hotel, here you will be introduced to your Enfield Bullet, and will spend the rest of the afternoon getting acquainted. Evening visit to Wagah border to watch closing of the gates between India and Pakistan. The gates between the two countries are closed before sunset and the border guards from each side take great pride in trying to out do each other in the elaborateness of their closing ceremony – quite a Scene! We will later drive back to our hotel in Amritsar for dinner and overnight.
Day 3Sunday 11th October 2009: Amritsar to Dharamsala (220kms): Early morning visit to the Golden Temple, return back to Hotel for Breakfast and soon after Hit the road to Dharamsala, ride passes initially through the traffic and then through the rolling hills and Charming villages to the head quarters of H. H. Dalailama at McLeodgunj. Dinner and overnight in Hotel.
Day 4Monday 12th October 2009: Dharamsala - Kullu via Kullu valley. (about 190 kms): Morning after breakfast visit to the monastery and the home of H. H.Dalai Lama and then ride on winding roads downhill takes us Norbolinga Tibetan Instruction with work shop and lovely monastery after a brief visit we continue our ride through the beautiful valley. Dinner and overnight in hotel.
Day 5Tuesday 13th October 2009: Kullu to Keylong (155 kms): After breakfast we begin our ride to keylong over Rohtang la pass (3980 m) which offers spectacular views of Pir Panjal Range, capturing Lahauls haunting beauty. Keylong (3350m), is the township of the Lahaul Valley and is a major stopover for the road travelers to Leh. Visit to Shashur Gompa built in the 17th AD and then proceed on to Khardang Gompa, believed to be founded 900 yrs ago and was renovated in 1912. Dinner and overnight in Bamboo Cottage.
Day 6Wednesday 14th October 2009: Keylong to Manali (115 kms): Today ride back to Manali. Late afternoon you can ride around the town. O/n Dinner and overnight in hotel.
Day 7Thursday 15th October 2009: Manali - Shimla (190kms): The area around Shimla offers some of the best riding in India – today’s ride takes us along well-surfaced roads which twist and turn through an endless chain of hills – biking heaven! Shimla was the summer capital of India under the British, and retains plenty of colonial charm. Dinner and overnight in hotel.
Day 8Friday 16th October 2009: Shimla - Rishikesh - Shivpuri (280kms) Early breakfast for a long, tiring day’s ride through some of the most beautiful scenery in the region. Tonight we camp in tents on the banks of the mighty River Ganges, having come through Rishikesh, ‘Yoga Capital of the World’, en route. Dinner and overnight in tent. Note; Since this is a long ride so we suggest to start ride on the early morning at about 6am.
Day 9Saturday 17th October 2009: Shipuri - Rishikesh: Breakfast and rafting with beach lunch. Back at camp, relax. Bon fire at night. Overnight in Tent.
Day 10Sunday 18th October 2009: Shivpuri - Rishikesh. Bike to Haridwar 45kms. Late afternoon our final ride to Haridwar railway station board fast train to Delhi at 18.10 hrs. On arrival delhi at 22.45 hrs, pick-up and transfer to hotel for overnight. Overnight Hotel.
Day 11Monday 19th October 2009: Delhi: Breakfast in hotel. Free Day. Evening transfer to the Int’l airport for flight to Australia.
